Anambra Police Raid Brothel Rescue 33 Underage Girls in Aguleri
Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command, attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, have rescued 33 underage girls during a raid on a suspected brothel in Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area.
The operation, carried out on January 7, 2026, followed ongoing investigations into cases of kidnapping, abduction, missing children and child trafficking, police authorities said.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ikenga Tochukwu, disclosed that three of the rescued girls—Divine Mbam (14), Nwagu Favour (15), and Oke Blessing (18)—had earlier been reported abducted on September 26, 2025, in Ebonyi State.

According to the police, the victims were found in a building allegedly used for child trafficking and prostitution, located in Aguleri. The property is reportedly owned by a woman identified as Mrs. Ngozi Nnanyelugo, aged 45, who is currently on the run.
One of the rescued girls, Divine Mbam, who was identified by her mother, reportedly told investigators that she and her cousin made several attempts to escape but were recaptured. She alleged that they were taken to a shrine and coerced into taking oaths under threats.
She further stated that the suspect allegedly insisted they would not be released until they repaid the money used to transport them from Ebonyi to Anambra.
SP Ikenga said efforts are ongoing to arrest the principal suspect, while investigations continue to uncover the full scope of the alleged crime and identify other collaborators involved in the operation.
The police assured the public that further updates would be communicated as the investigation progresses.
