The Victims Support Fund (VSF) has distributed fertilizer and other farm inputs to 1,000 smallholder farmers affected by the insurgency activities in Borno State.
Executive Director of the VSF, Professor Nana Tanko, disclosed this during the distribution of the inputs to the beneficiaries in Kwaya Kusar Local Government Area of the state.
She said the gesture was part of its farming programme aimed at restoring the livelihood of victims of insurgency, where 1,000 smallholder farmers in Kwaya Kusar LGA were selected to benefit from the programme.
Prof. Tanko explained that the beneficiaries were provided with three 50-gramme sachets of NPK and two 50-gramme sachets of Urea fertilizers as well as one 16-litre knapsack sprayer.
She said the fund has been supporting smallholder farmers in conflict-affected communities in the North-East and other parts of Nigeria, “to re-establish their agricultural and food production capacity through the provision of requisite inputs, machineries and extension services.”
The executive director stated that the intervention launched in Kwaya Kusar LGA, will be targeting over 1000 small medium-scale farmers, who were affected by insurgency activities in their communities, across the 27 LGAs of the state.
The VSF was established in 2015 under the chairmanship of Lieutenant General TY Danjuma (Rtd) to provide support to the victims of terrorism and insurgency in the country.
