We can’t rescue accident victims outside federal roads, says FRSC
…to appeal restrictions judgement
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it will appeal the latest ruling by an appeal court restricting its operations to federal roads.
It also stated that the court ruling would make it impossible for its personnel to rescue accident victims on other roads, if allowed to stand.
The Court of Appeal sitting in Asaba, Delta State, had passed the judgement confining the FRSC operations to only the federal roads nationwide.
It was in a case No. CA/AS/276/2019 filed against the FRSC by one Darlington Ugo Ehikim.
But in a statement on Tuesday evening, the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Dauda Biu, stated that the Corps would seek a stay of execution of the judgement as well as appeal the decision of the court.
The statement was issued by the spokesman for the FRSC, Bisi Kazeem.
The corps marshal was quoted as saying, “We are aware of the judgement of the Court of Appeal Asaba Judicial Division, from the briefing received from our legal representatives.”
Biu further said, “The implication of the said judgement as reported in the media is that our personnel would not be able to attend or rescue crash victims on roads other than federal roads.”
He however stated that the FRSC was yet to obtain a certified true copy of the judgement.
“As soon as we obtain same, we would take time to look at the judgement and make an informed decision on it. Until then, we urge the public to remain calm,” he said.
