Abducted Bishop of Jebba Anglican Diocese, Kwara State, Rev Aderogba Adeyinka, his wife and the driver have been released about 48 hours after their abduction.
They regained their freedom on Tuesday, two days after their abduction.
This was disclosed by the Diocese of Osun Anglican Communion via its Twitter handle on Tuesday evening, saying,“Praise be to God. Bishop Adeyinka Aderogba, his wife and driver released from the den of kidnappers after 48 hours.
“They are being taken to the hospital for medical attention.”
The victims on Sunday were abducted after their vehicle developed a mechanical fault while travelling from Yewa, Ogun State to Jebba, Kwara State en route an isolated area along New Oyo/Ogbomoso Expressway.
The abductors on Monday demanded a ransom of N50m from the church but it could not be ascertained if the ransom was paid.
The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, said they were released unhurt.
He said the state command of the Nigeria Police Force deployed its officers to rescue the victims.
Olafeso said, ”Massive deployment of police personnel for the operation to rescue the victims and the domination of the entire area by the police tactical teams pressurised the abductors in freeing the victims.”
