Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, says he is prepared to work with aggrieved members of the party for the victory of the PDP at the poll in 2023.
Atiku spoke in Gombe on Saturday where he went to attend a wedding, expressing confidence that the PDP would win the 2023 elections due to its track record and popularity.
Atiku told journalists in an interview at the Sani Abacha International Airport Gombe that the party’s chances of winning the 2023 elections are high due to its impeccable record.
He acknowledged that the party lost in 2015 due to some mistakes, which he said the PDP had recovered from.
He said, “PDP is a very popular party and it is the oldest party in Nigeria. We have realised that we made mistakes.
“I’m still talking to aggrieved members of the party and I believe at the end of the day we will work together.”
The former vice president of Nigeria has had a running battle with River State Governor Nyesom Wike after winning the presidential ticket of the party and the latter came second. Wike camp has insisted that the only condition of working for Atiku is for the party’s national chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, (from the North like Atiku) to step down.
Meanwhile, Atiku Abubakar was saved by his security team as a youth whose intention was unknown, rushed at him but was quickly stopped.
The former Vice President said he was thrilled by thousands of supporters that trooped out to welcome him.
The Adamawa-born politician, who took to his verified social media pages with the pictures of the crowd, said he almost mistook the reception he received for a political rally
“Wedding or rally? I just landed in Gombe for a wedding, but the love and reception are so massive, I had to ask myself this question. Thank you. -AA,” Atiku said.
Atiku also briefly opened a campaign office dedicated to the realisation of his 2023 aspiration of becoming the number one citizen.
The office was reportedly donated by Jamilu Ishaku, the first runner-up in the 2023 PDP gubernatorial election.
Also donated are 10 space-wagon campaign vehicles provided by Ishaku.
