Why Defence Minister Badaru resigned – Presidency
The Presidency on Monday confirmed the sudden resignation of the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, describing the development as strictly health-related.
But Newstrends learnt he was forced to resign as part of conditions given by the United States to assist Nigeria in fighting insurgency and restore security.
Badaru tendered his resignation in a letter addressed to President Bola Tinubu, dated December 1, and immediately stepped down from his position.

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, told Channels Television that the President accepted the minister’s decision and expressed appreciation for his service to the country.
“Abubakar resigned on health grounds,” Onanuga said, reinforcing earlier reports that the minister had been battling undisclosed medical concerns.

Presidential sources also revealed that President Tinubu is expected to transmit the name of Badaru’s replacement to the Senate before the end of the week, as consultations for a new Defence minister intensify.
