Why I don’t believe in ‘One Nigeria’ – El-Rufai’s son

Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has openly dismissed the notion of ‘One Nigeria,’ arguing instead that the country’s challenges can only be addressed through regional autonomy.

In a post shared on his X handle, El-Rufai said Nigeria’s divisions would be better managed if the country were restructured along regional lines, where citizens would know their leaders and hold them accountable.

He wrote: “Regional autonomy can easily solve this situation of blame games. It is crucial as all citizens of said regions would be cognizant of who they can directly hold responsible for their woes.

“I don’t believe in this esoteric concept of ‘One Nigeria’. Escobar & I can agree on that.”
