Wike alleges some kidnappings in FCT are orchestrated
Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has raised concerns over what he believes to be staged kidnappings within the territory.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday following a meeting with Senators at the National Assembly, Wike highlighted the complexities surrounding the security landscape in the FCT.
The Senate had summoned him to discuss strategies to tackle the region’s escalating security challenges.
Wike acknowledged the difficulty in completely eradicating crime and criminal activities from society but pledged to collaborate with security agencies to enhance security and infrastructure in the FCT.

He remarked, “Individuals orchestrate some of the reported kidnappings. Internal collusion is not uncommon. For instance, household staff or drivers may conspire to abduct their employer’s child. In such cases, our options are limited.”
“While we strive to secure the safe release of victims, prevention remains challenging due to the insider involvement, where even those entrusted with transporting children from school may be complicit in orchestrating kidnappings,” Wike explained.
Expressing satisfaction with the discussions with senators, Wike emphasized enhancing security measures and infrastructure development in the FCT, transforming it into a burgeoning construction hub.
