Wike Confirms Appointment of 1,659 FCTA Workers After Years of Delay
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has approved the confirmation of appointment of 1,659 workers employed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) in 2016 and 2019, bringing long-awaited clarity to the employment status of the affected staff.
The Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Emeka Ezeh, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja and signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the minister on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.
According to Ezeh, the confirmed workers were among the 2,281 staff members who sat for the confirmation examination conducted by the FCT Civil Service Commission on February 28, 2026.
He explained that a total of 2,512 workers were invited for the exercise aimed at regularising their employment, but only 2,281 candidates turned up for the examination.
Ezeh added that 224 officers failed to appear for the exercise, a development that has raised suspicions within the commission that some of the names on the payroll may belong to ghost workers.

“Some of the workers who sat for the confirmation were employed as far back as 2016 and 2019, while others were recruited shortly before Wike assumed office as FCT Minister in August 2023,” he said.
The confirmation exercise forms part of ongoing efforts by the FCTA to ensure transparency, accountability and proper documentation of its workforce while addressing lingering issues surrounding staff recruitment in previous years.
Ezeh also revealed that the commission had concluded plans to conduct the 2025 and 2026 promotion exercises for FCTA workers, following approval from the minister.
He noted that the initiative aligns with the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to improve staff welfare and strengthen the productivity of the public service under the Renewed Hope agenda.
The commission advised affected workers to visit its official website — www.fctcsc.abj.gov.ng — to check the status of their names and confirmation results.
