Wike Issues Sack Threat Over Refuse Heaps, Sets May Deadline for Bwari-Kubwa Road

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Friday issued a stern warning to the Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department, Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, threatening dismissal over uncollected refuse heaps discovered during an inspection tour.

Wike gave the ultimatum after assessing ongoing infrastructure projects across Karshi, Bwari and Kubwa as part of efforts to track the implementation of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda in the nation’s capital.

The inspection took a dramatic turn when the minister encountered a large refuse dump along the Orozo-Karshi road, drawing sharp criticism from him over what he described as unacceptable negligence.

He warned that failure to address the situation by Monday would attract immediate sanctions, stressing that officials responsible for sanitation and project oversight must meet performance standards.

According to him, infrastructure expansion cannot be separated from environmental management, insisting that development must go hand-in-hand with proper sanitation and operational efficiency.

Wike said any lapses in refuse management within Karshi or Bwari would be treated as a breach of duty, adding that the administration would not tolerate practices capable of slowing down ongoing projects.

Despite the sanitation concerns, the minister expressed satisfaction with the pace of road construction in Karshi and provided updates on key projects.

On the long-delayed Apo-Karshi road, he disclosed that the contract had been rescinded and re-awarded to SCC Construction Company to fast-track delivery after years of setbacks experienced by commuters.

He also highlighted the 17-kilometre Bwari-Kubwa road project, describing it as a strategic corridor expected to boost economic activities and ease movement between the growing satellite communities.

Wike announced that the Bwari-Kubwa road is scheduled for completion by May 3, 2026, while landscaping and environmental improvement works are expected to be concluded before the end of the year.
