Woman buries daughter’s newborn alive in Lagos
A grandmother has been accused of burying her 17-year-old daughter’s newborn baby alive in the Ogombo area of Ajah, Lagos State.
The baby’s lifeless body was later recovered.
Sources reveal that the grandmother became furious upon discovering that her teenage daughter, identified as Favour, was pregnant.
Determined to keep the pregnancy hidden, she made extensive efforts to conceal the truth from the public.
Despite these efforts, neighbors began to suspect that Favour was pregnant and confronted her mother. The grandmother vehemently denied the allegations, maintaining the secret.
In a video posted by Peace Ighodaro on the social media platform X.com, the teenager, questioned by neighbours, admitted to giving birth alone.
“I was the one that called my mother after I gave birth. When I gave birth, I did not know what was going on,” she explained.
According to Ighodaro, the grandmother took the newborn from Favour, later telling her daughter that the baby had died.
Ighodaro also accused the grandmother of killing the baby despite offers from people willing to adopt the newborn.

“A girl named Favour in Ogombo, Ajah, gave birth last Saturday, but her mother took the baby and murdered it.
“Despite the teenager’s pregnancy being confirmed, the mother was in denial and kept the girl isolated.
When the baby was born, the mother claimed it didn’t survive. Heartbreakingly, someone had offered to adopt the baby, but the grandmother chose to end its life,” Ighodaro posted.
An anonymous source revealed that a neighbour witnessed the grandmother burying the baby in their backyard.
When the neighbour attempted to rescue the baby, it was already too late.
“One of the neighbours saw the grandmother burying the baby but intervened only after the baby had been buried. Unfortunately, the baby was dead by the time they retrieved it,” the source said.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident and the grandmother’s arrest.
“The grandmother has been arrested. The mother of the baby heard it crying after the grandmother took it but was later told it had died. Investigations revealed the baby was buried alive,” Hundeyin stated.
He also clarified that the teenage mother is not a suspect and is currently in police custody for her protection.
