A car driven a yet-to-be identified female driver on Saturday plunged into Gbodofon River along Gbongan-Osogbo Road, causing panic among road users.
A commercial minibus driver, Akeem Olaoye, who was an eyewitness, told Sunday PUNCH the driver was heading towards the Aregbesola Area, when the car veered off the road and plunged into the river.
Olatoye added that some people near the scene, however, jumped into the river and brought out the woman alive.
He said, “I was driving behind the woman. It happened some minutes to 12pm.
“The vehicle fell into the river. It had just one occupant – the woman who was the driver. Some people around jumped into the river. The woman was rescued alive and taken to a nearby hospital.”
When our correspondent arrived at the scene around 1pm, the vehicle was still inside the river. Also at the scene were officials of the State Fire Service, as well as a big crowd.
The Public Relations Officer of Osun State Fire Service, Ibrahim Adekunle, said, “The woman just left a mechanic’s workshop in Gbodofon and drove towards the Ogo-Oluwa area but later turned in front of the APC Secretariat and moved towards Aregbesola Area.
