Microsoft has officially announced the return of Xbox Game Camp Africa for its third year, reaffirming its long-term commitment to supporting emerging game development talent across the continent.
Announced via Xbox Wire, the initiative is once again being held in collaboration with ID@Xbox’s Developer Acceleration Program (DAP). This year’s camp will feature a 12-week structured program designed for selected professional game studios from across Africa. Participating teams will receive hands-on mentorship from industry veterans at Team Xbox, guiding them from concept to playable prototype or vertical slice.
Since its launch, Xbox Game Camp Africa has introduced more than 1,900 aspiring game creators to the tools, mentorship, and global platform needed to bring their visions to life. One standout success story is Kunta Content, a Kenyan-based studio whose debut title, Hiru, was born from their experience in the program. Their latest trailer showcases lush African landscapes, from the sweeping plains of the Masai Mara to the enigmatic jungles of the Congo Basin, and has received praise for its worldbuilding and cultural authenticity.“We’re thrilled to finally reveal a glimpse of Hiru,” said Dean Gichukie, CEO & Game Producer at Kunta Content. “This project is a love letter to Africa, and the support we’ve received from Xbox—starting with Game Camp—has been instrumental in turning our vision into reality.”
The 2025 edition of Xbox Game Camp Africa officially kicks off on December 4 in Cape Town, South Africa, as part of Africa Games Week, one of the continent’s leading industry events.
