Korede Bello, a student of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Lagos, was shot and killed on Thursday night on the college premises.
Bello was walking with a female friend at about 10 pm when suspected cultists surrounded him and held him by the shoulder, a source told FIJ.
He made an attempt to run, and shouted ”help me!”, but the yet-to-be-identified boys held on to him, brought out a gun and shot him in the left side of his head. He succumbed to his injuries and died on the spot.
Speaking with FIJ on condition of anonymity, a source said, “He was walking with a lady, and three boys just surrounded him. He wanted to run away, and was shouting ‘help me!’, but they held his shoulder and one brought out a gun to shoot him.

Days before his murder, Bello had expressed sadness and worry, but refused to express himself, said one of his friends on condition of anonymity.
FIJ made phone calls to Joe Ejiofor, public relations officer of the college, but as of press time, they were unanswered. He had also not responded to a text message sent to him.
FIJ made calls to Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, but they were unanswered as of press time. He also did not respond to a text message sent to him.
Bello joins a growing list of students of the college killed in recent times. In August, a student identified as Kunle, governor of HND 1 quantity survey department, was shot and killed in the campus’ sports complex while watching a football match.
On July 28, 2021, Tosin Osatuyi, a final year student of the college’s civil engineering department was killed while celebrating the completion of his final examinations.
He was at an event centre where he and friends had gathered to celebrate.
All incidents have been linked to cultists, but none of the suspects has been apprehended.
