Yahoo boys open fire on EFCC operatives in Anambra, kill 1 officer
A team from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) came under attack in Anambra State on Friday, leaving one officer dead and another critically injured.
The officers, who were reportedly on a mission to apprehend suspected internet fraudsters, commonly referred to as “Yahoo Boys,” were ambushed with gunfire by the suspected internet fraudsters.
Sources revealed that the team had traveled to Anambra from the EFCC’s zonal headquarters in Enugu for the operation.
The officer who lost his life, an assistant superintendent, had recently completed a promotional examination.

The injured officer remains in critical condition at an undisclosed hospital as of Friday night.
Confirming the incident, Anambra State Police Command spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that investigations are ongoing.
“Investigation into the sad incident is ongoing. The suspect is in custody while the arm has been recovered. Further details shall be communicated, please,” Ikenga said.
