Yuletide free train ride begins, NRC directs travellers to obtain tickets online
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) says it has commenced the implementation of a free train ride on its entire passengers services.
This it said in a statement was in line with the directive of President Bola Tinubu to encourage people to travel to celebrate the Yuletide holiday with their loved ones.
The corporation urged all prospective train passengers to obtain their free tickets online.
It warned that no ticket would be issued at the train stations.
Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake, during a press conference on Wednesday in Abuja, announced the presidential intervention in public transportation to celebrate the Yuletide season.
He also said the President had directed a 50 per cent slash in the road transport fare for long distance travels within the country.
The NRC statement read in part, “The general public may note that the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) will commence free train service on its entire Passengers’ services from Thursday 21st December 2023 to Thursday 4thJanuary 2024, both days inclusive.
“Passengers are advised to obtain their free tickets via the online e-ticketing platforms only. Tickets will not be issued at any of the Corporation’s Train Stations.
“Please note that no commuter will be allowed to board the train without a ticket.
“We enjoined commuters to be orderly, obey security personnel and the laid down boarding instructions of the NRC and those of its officials while at the
station and on-board the trains.
“We wish all our esteemed customers a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in advance.”
