Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle of Zamfara State has directed the state international cargo airport should commence operations by June next year.
He stated this while inspecting ongoing construction work at the airport site and expressed satisfaction with the progress of work there.
He directed the company handling the project to ensure that the runway, all terminal sections commence operations before June next year, hoping that all Airport facilities and equipment would be on the ground before the stipulated time.
The governor also expressed delight at the construction of terminal building which has reached a high level of progress and directed the construction of access roads and other necessary facilities to meet the deadline.
He said the state government would construct a befitting modern hajj camp and pilgrims accommodation close to the airport so that intending pilgrims of the state and neighbouring states would be accommodated while awaiting their take-off time to Saudi Arabia.
Earlier, the state Commissioner of Works and Transport, Ibrahim Mayana, briefed the governor on the progress of work at the site.
The commissioner who took the governor round said work was going on based on the guidelines and the contractual agreement.
He said all skills acquisition centres across the state would soon resume operations after eight years of redundancy.
