Zoning PDP 2027 presidential ticket to South strategic blunder – Group
The Gbenga Hashim Solidarity Movement (GHSM) has faulted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for zoning its 2027 presidential ticket to the South.
At its 102nd NEC meeting on Monday, the PDP resolved to zone the presidency to the South while retaining its national chairmanship in the North.
In a statement on Tuesday, Abdulrazaq Hamzat, national coordinator of GHSM, described the move as a “strategic blunder” that could not only hurt the party’s chances in 2027 but also expose its candidate to disqualification in court.

Hamzat argued that the NEC lacks the authority to restrict elective offices to any region, saying the action violates the 1999 Constitution and the PDP constitution.
He cited Section 42(1) of the constitution, which prohibits discrimination based on ethnicity, origin, religion, sex, or political opinion, and Section 7(2)(c) of the PDP constitution, which mandates conformity with Nigeria’s constitution.
“History has shown us that whenever the PDP abandons its democratic tradition of open contests, it pays a heavy price. The zoning of the 2027 presidential ticket is, therefore, not just an error but a dangerous miscalculation,” the group said.
GHSM reaffirmed its support for former presidential aspirant Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, insisting that he embodies the unity and inclusivity the country needs.
“No amount of unconstitutional zoning will deter our movement. We will continue to push for the reversal of this error before the November convention,” it added.
