2027: Ganduje Assures Kano Governor Yusuf of APC Support for Re-Election

Former APC National Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has assured Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of the ruling party’s full backing for his re-election bid in the 2027 governorship election, following Yusuf’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ganduje made the assurance during a political gathering in Kano, where he declared that the APC leadership in the state had agreed to support Governor Yusuf for a second term, urging party members and aspirants to close ranks behind the governor ahead of 2027.

According to Ganduje, all former APC governorship aspirants in Kano have resolved to work with Yusuf, describing the decision as a strategic move to strengthen unity and ensure continuity of governance in the state.

The endorsement comes amid a wave of political realignments in Kano, with several lawmakers, local government chairmen, and political leaders reportedly defecting to the APC alongside the governor. The development signals a major consolidation of power by the ruling party ahead of future elections.

Also speaking, Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, welcomed Governor Yusuf into the APC and pledged cooperation between the federal and state leadership to advance development in Kano.

However, Yusuf’s defection has drawn criticism from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and loyalists of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who accused the governor of abandoning the platform that brought him to power. Despite the backlash, APC leaders insist the move reflects broader national realignments ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

With Ganduje’s assurance and growing APC influence in the state, analysts say Governor Yusuf’s 2027 prospects have been significantly boosted as Kano’s political landscape continues to shift.
