Dangote Ends Festive Discount, Raises Petrol Prices Nationwide
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a nationwide increase in petrol price, marking the end of its festive-season price relief and a return to what it describes as market-driven pricing.
According to industry sources, the refinery has increased its petrol (Premium Motor Spirit, PMS) gantry price from about ₦699 per litre to ₦799 per litre, a move expected to push pump prices at retail outlets to around ₦839 per litre, depending on location and distribution costs.
The price adjustment follows weeks of reduced pricing by the refinery, which had earlier slashed petrol prices to ease economic pressure on Nigerians during the festive period. The temporary cuts led to increased fuel availability nationwide, with reports indicating that over 1,000 tanker trucks were loading petrol daily from the Lekki-based facility at the peak of the price reduction.

Dangote Refinery officials said the latest increase reflects prevailing market realities, including crude oil costs, logistics, and operational sustainability. The company stressed that while it remains committed to supporting Nigeria’s energy needs, pricing must align with long-term supply stability.
The refinery has adjusted petrol prices multiple times in recent months, cutting rates from as high as ₦828 per litre before the festive reduction, and now raising them again as the subsidy-free fuel market continues to adjust.
Energy analysts note that changes in Dangote Refinery petrol prices often influence fuel costs nationwide, given the refinery’s growing role in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector. Marketers are expected to gradually reflect the new gantry price at filling stations across the country.
The development comes amid ongoing public debate over fuel prices in Nigeria, transportation costs, and the broader impact of deregulation on household spending.
