Nigerian auto journalists to hold capacity building workshop

All is now set for this year’s edition of the Nigeria Auto Journalists Association (NAJA) Training/Capacity Building programme on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Lagos.

The 2020 edition is being supported by Coscharis Motors Plc, Stallion Automobile Group, Massilia Motors Limited and Cars45 Limited as part of their contributions towards the growth  of the automotive industry in Nigeria and globally.

This main paper for this year’s training/capacity programme is anchored on the theme, ‘The Role of Nigeria’s Automotive Journalists Amid COVID-19 Era’ to be delivered by Dr Oscah Odiboh; a lecturer at the Covenant University Ota, Ogun State.

The second paper, which is line with the digital migration in the present day journalism is titled,  ‘Utilising  Social Media Tools in News Reportage by Journalists’, to be presented by Yusuf Aweda Jimoh, a Microsoft-certified technology specialist, network and software engineer.

Expected at the event to give keynote addresses are Aliyu Jelani, director-general, National Automotive Design & Development Council (NADDC) and Boboye Oyeyemi, corp marshal, Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC).

According to Mike Ochonma, Associate Editor of BusinessDay and Chairman, NAJA, the one-day training programme is expected at enrich and expand the knowledge of journalists in the topics slated as the automotive industry remains one of the critical sectors in the country and globally that cannot be ignored by government, foreign and private investors.

He said, ”Journalism is massively taking a new dimension in the face of digital  migration making it imperative for reporters to have analytical mind and be well informed in the beats that they cover.”

It would be recalled that Ford Motors South Africa (FMCSA) in collaboration with Coscharis Motors, its local franchisee, was the lead sponsors of the first and second editions held in 2016 and 2017.

Stallion Motors Nigeria Limited, with Nissan Motors South Africa, was the lead sponsors of the 2018 edition.

The NAJA training workshop is an annual training programme, organised to refresh the minds of practicing auto journalists on the trend of auto journalism worldwide.

Members of the association cut across reputable print, electronic and online media outfits across the country.

Jetour has flaunted to the Nigerian SUV lovers features of its new model, X70 Plus, also called Elegance in this market.
The auto Jetour Mobility Service says in a statement that the model is coming with stylish design and outstanding power.
“Looking for a compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) that is pragmatic, stylish, and comfortable, delivering power on demand? Then the Jetour X70 Plus, newly introduced in Nigeria by Jetour Mobility Services, is what you desire. The Jetour X70 Plus has both 1.5T 6DCT and 1.6T 7DCT just like the Dashing,” it states.
It is equipped with a 20-inch aluminum wheel hub featuring light weight, higher firmness, faster heat dissipation and better aesthetics, which enhances better fuel consumption, stability and safety.

Still on the exterior features, the vertically aligned transparent LED light, as well as the shark fin antenna improves safety and reduces wind resistance respectively.

According to Jetour, “its impressive grill, large wheels and four LED daytime running lights perfectly complements its bold and muscular look. Featuring a wide, captivating, 62-inch ultra-wide angle panoramic roof that enhances your drive with natural lighting and ventilation.”

The Jetour X70 comes with a number of other features such as a touch screen panel that controls the air conditioning system; infotainment system compatible with latest generation smart phones; digital cockpit; front and rear parking radars; and a 10.25- inch full LCD Dual smart screen.

Its rear seat can be folded for increased cargo space, and the automatic luggage door makes access to the luggage compartment easier.

The vehicle also comes with intelligent air purification system, intuitive infotainment system, advanced wireless technology, 360-degree parking system and electrical 6-directional control driver seat.

Other features include cruise control, lane departure warning system, blind spot monitoring, keyless engine start, keyless entry start, multi-functional steering wheel, anti-lock brake system, front and back air bags and tyre pressure monitoring system.

Jetour X70 Plus advanced safety and stability features also include Hill Start Assist, Traction Control, electronic stability.

Paired with a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission, the vehicle’s 1.6 litre turbo engine produces maximum of 197 horsepower, facilitating better fuel consumption efficiency.

The suspension system has been engineered to withstand both On-road and Off-road terrain, be it city drive or highway drive.

The Jetour X70 Plus, known for its charming and radiant appearance and friendly ambience, comes in a variety of colours such as red, gray, blue among others.

Kewalram unveils Nigeria’s first compact pickup, Fiat Strada

Kewalram Chanrai, one of the frontline auto solution providers in Nigeria, has introduced the Fiat Strada, a 1.4 litre compact pickup, into the local market.
The vehicle coming with remarkable fuel efficiency and low price is the first new small pickup in the Nigerian market.
Managing Director, Kewalram Chanrai Auto/Transport Vertical, Anil Sahgal, unveiled the product at the company’s Victoria Island office in Lagos on Tuesday.


This was done after extensive testing of the vehicle on the Nigerian roads in some states under extreme conditions, covering over 29,000 kilometres.
Fiat Strada, according to the General Manager Automotive Division, Kewalram Chanrai, Mr Sudeep Mittal, is produced at the Stellantis plant in Brazil, where it emerged as the highest selling pickup last year.
He said the introduction of the vehicle in Nigeria is against the need for a high performance pickup offering great comfort with low operational cost in view of the current high cost of fuel.
The Strada, he said, is bringing higher standards in technology, design and safety to the pickup auto market segment.
“The Fiat Strada serves as a genuine driving force in the evolution of the automotive industry.
“Apart from performance and comfort, fuel economy has become very key in Nigeria now. That’s why we went to look for a pickup that fills this gap. Fiat Stranda will give value for money,” Mittal said.
He noted that with over 85,000 units sold in Brazil by the end of September 2023 and a remarkable achievement of 400,000 units since its second-generation launch in 2020, the Fiat Strada is set to conquer the Sub-Saharan African market, including Nigeria.
The compact pickup is the culmination of 25 years of expertise, he said, adding that its design was influenced by the award-winning Fiat Toro and stands out with its remarkable audacity and modernity.
The company says the Fiat Strada’s cargo capacity is unparalleled, capable of accommodating between 650kg and 720kg, depending on the version, and offering up to 1,354 litres in the single-cabin model, making it exceptionally suited to a variety of professional and personal needs.
It gives 11.8km/L fuel efficiency in city driving and 12.4km/L on the highway, making it one of the most fuel-efficient pickups on the road today.
Its iconic LED headlights emits 20 per cent brighter light than its competitors, the company says.
The Strada is described as a technological marvel, equipped with advanced technologies such as stability control, hill start assist, and TC+.
The company says Fiat Strada ensures optimal traction, even on the most challenging terrains.
The Strada’s interior provides a cocoon of comfort, with abundant storage compartments, paired with cutting-edge air conditioning; it ensure that every trip is as enjoyable as the previous one.
On safety, the Strada is equipped comprehensively, boasting two airbags, pretensioner seatbelts, and the Isofix system for young passengers.
“Even in the unfortunate event of an accident, it has been designed to minimize risks to pedestrians.
“What truly sets the Strada apart is its versatility. It seamlessly functions as both a reliable workhorse and an elegant travel companion, representing a perfect fusion of modernity, comfort, technology, and safety.”
