7 out of 10 Nigerian students are criminals, says EFCC Chairman

Ola Olukoyede, the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has raised concern over the growing prevalence of Nigerian youth involvement in cybercrime.

Olukoyede stated in an EFCC statement on X that it is concerning that seven out of ten students in Nigeria nowadays are engaging in cybercrime.

He made the remarks on Monday while hosting a group from Daar Communication PLC on a courtesy visit to the EFCC’s corporate offices in Jabi, Abuja.

“We are looking towards Daar Communications to enlighten our youths on the evils of cyber crimes. It is worrisome that seven out of ten students today are involved in cyber crimes,” Olukoyede said.

The EFCC Chairman called on the media to design programmes that are aimed at enlightening the Nigerian youth on the evil of the crimes.

“These are the youths we are preparing to be leaders of tomorrow. The media should not relent in enlightening them on the evils of such criminal practices.”

He decried the effects of youth’s involvement in internet-related crimes and described the practice as a menace and cankerworm in society.

Olukoyede called for a wider media enlightenment of the youth across the country on the effects of indulgence in internet fraud.
