Lagos announces closure of popular bridge in Apapa for 97 days

The Lagos State Government has announced a traffic diversion on the Marine Bridge, outbound Apapa, for 97 days to allow for repairs on the asphalt section of the road.

The partial closure of Marine Bridge is scheduled to run from Monday, 18th November 2024, to Tuesday, 25th February 2025.

In a statement released on Friday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, advised motorists to use alternative routes during the period.

He stated, “Motorists heading to Lagos Island from Apapa are advised to go through Costain Roundabout inwards Eko Bridge to reach Lagos Island. Alternatively, they can use Ijora 7up through the Marine Bridge to access the ramp linking Ijora Causeway Access Road via Ijora Oloye and proceed to Eko Bridge to connect Lagos Island.”

Osiyemi further explained the alternative routes for those heading to Ijora Causeway or Iddo from Apapa.

“Motorists from Apapa can go through Costain Roundabout to link Eko Bridge and access Ijora Causeway via the Eko Bridge access ramp, after which they can make a U-turn on Ijora Causeway to reach Iddo.

“Alternatively, they can use Ijora 7up through Marine Bridge to access the ramp connecting Ijora Causeway Access Road via Ijora Oloye to link Ijora Causeway and get to Iddo,” he added.

He clarified that the diversion would only affect traffic inwards Ijora Olopa, while movement towards Costain via Sifax would remain open.

Osiyemi assured that personnel from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would be deployed to manage vehicular movement along the diversion corridors to minimise inconveniences.

He added, “The duration of the repair works will be strictly monitored to ensure timely delivery. Motorists are implored to exercise patience as the diversion is part of the traffic management plan for the rehabilitation of the road sections by the Federal Ministry of Works (Office of the Federal Controller, Lagos).”
