Kidnappers chase policemen attempting to rescue victims in Abuja

An attempt to rescue 10 abducted individuals was resisted by kidnappers who attacked Sagwari Layout Estate in the Dutse area of Abuja on Sunday night.

Following the kidnapping incident, a rescue operation was initiated by residents aiming to locate and free the abducted victims.

THE WHISTLER reported how gunmen, disguised as herders, launched an attack on the residential estate on Sunday, January 7, kidnapping at least 10 individuals.

According to eyewitness report, the invasion occurred around 7:30 pm, with no fewer than eight estate residents and two hotel staff members abducted.

In an attempt to rescue the abducted individuals, a group comprising estate security, three police personnel, and local residents went into the hills surrounding the estate at approximately 8 pm in search of the abducted victims.

However, the armed kidnappers shot at them, forcing the rescuers to retreat.

Describing their encounter, one of the rescuers told THE WHISTLER: “We went to the hill in search of the victims around 8 pm that yesterday. The estate security guard, three policemen and some of the estate people, but we had to come back after the kidnappers chased and shot at us.

“We had only cutlass, and the policemen couldn’t face them looking at their number, coupled with the fact that the kidnappers know the terrain.”

Residents of the estate appealed for comprehensive security measures and prompt intervention by authorities to ensure the safe return of the abductees.

The Kogi state government has announced the rescue of six more students, bringing the number of kidnapped students so far rescued to twenty.

This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday, May 14, by the state commissioner for information, Kingsley Fanwo.

The commissioner said: “Our data shows that there are four students yet to be found.

“The fierce gun battle between security agents and the kidnappers forced the kidnappers to succumb to superior firepower and abandon the kidnapped students. Some of the kidnappers escaped with severe injuries.”

He said Governor Ahmed Ododo expressed deep appreciation to the Joint Forces that carried out the operations, urging them to continue the search until the last student is found.

“We wish to assure the public that the security architecture around our schools has been recalibrated for efficiency and early warning alarm to prevent future occurrence,” he added.

The Nation had reported that bandits on Thursday, May 9, invaded the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTEC), Osara, Okene in Kogi, and abducted some student

However, Governor Ododo assured the parents and the entire residents of Kogi state that the abducted students of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTEC), Osara, Okenese, would be rescued.

The police later confirmed that 14 students had been rescued.

A lady has cried out after being jilted by her date, simply identified as Charles, who absconded without paying for the N65,000 champagne he ordered.

Simply identified on X as Abike, she narrated on Monday that Charles took her to a strip club and absconded without clearing the bills over her refusal to follow him to a hotel room.

“I can’t forget the day this guy invited me to a strip club,” she narrated.

“I got there; he bought Champagne for N65,000, and after the whole thing, he said we should go to his hotel, which I refused.”

According to Abike, following her refusal, her date excused himself, saying he wanted to ease himself while she remained seated, unaware of his clandestine intentions.

She added that he “japa” without clearing the bills.

The distraught lady stated that she had to pay for the drink with her school fees.

“I had to take money from my school fees to clear the bill,” she mentioned.

“Charles, I hope you see this, and I just want to say your helper will run away from you,” she added.

A man, yet to be identified, was apprehended for possessing a bomb on the premises of a bank in Dadin Kowa town, located in the Jos South area of Plateau State.

As soon as it was discovered that the suspect had a bomb in his possession, an alarm was raised, and swift action was taken to restrain him and prevent a potential tragedy.

According to a post by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X on Tuesday, the vigilante security at the bank played a crucial role in thwarting the attack by spotting the suspect.

In response to the situation, an angry mob confronted the suspect and reportedly called for his execution.

Subsequently, the suspect was handed over to the police for thorough investigation.

A photo attached to Makama’s post depicted the bomb strapped around the suspect’s abdomen.

However, it remains unclear whether the suspect has any ties to terrorist organizations operating in the country.
