Prominent All Progressives Congress(APC) member Joe Igbokwe has chastised activist Aisha Yesufu for what he considers to be inappropriate behaviour towards the new national anthem.

Known for her activism, Yesufu chose to sit down at an occasion instead of singing the national anthem, “Nigeria we hail thee,” while others rose up to respect the anthem.

The co-convener of the BringBackOurGirls advocacy organization was seen sitting while the new national anthem was being recited in a video that she shared on X on Friday.

FRSC hands over N10m goods recovered from accident scene to owners

The Federal Road Safety Corps, Ondo State Sector Command, has handed over goods worth N10 million recovered from an accident scene to the family of the victim.

Speaking with journalists on Saturday in Akure while handing over the goods, the Sector Commander, Dr Samuel Ibitoye, said the gesture was part of the corps transparency, honesty and passionate efforts.

Mr Ibitoye said that the accident which occurred on March 23, at about 7.00am around checkpoint at Igbara-Oke in the Ifedore Local Government Area of the state, involved a commercial bus and trailer.

The sector commander, who said that no life was lost, explained that the victims sustained serious injuries on their legs and hands.

Mr Ibitoye attributed the cause of the accident to speeding, leading to rear collision on the part of the commercial bus.

He said, “So, we are here to handover the recovered items; load of bags, to the owners through the union leader that came to collect them on behalf of the owners. According to the owners, the goods were over N10 million which contained fabrics and many other valuable items, transported from Kano to Ibadan, Oyo State. So, FRSC is an organisation full of integrity, and trained to be transparent, honest, loyal and passionate to the people. In any crash, FRSC will ensure that even if it is a pin inside the vehicle, it will be delivered to his or her owners or their families, and nothing will get missing.’’

Mr Ibitoye appealed to drivers to be patient while on the roads, and shun speeding and overloading to avoid accidents.

“To our drivers, especially those on the interstate, you need to be patient, shun speeding and overloading, and not drive recklessly. And when they are tired, they should please have a stop and take a rest for at least 20 minutes, before embarking on their journey to save lives and property,” he said.

The Chairman, hummer bus, trailer and J5, Shasha Unit, Akure, Rabiu Subaru, who received the goods on behalf of the owners, appreciated the FRSC for the rescue and being honest with the items recovered from the accident scene.

Mr Subaru said that the two occupants of the accident bus; motor boy and a driver who sustained serious injuries on their legs and hands, had been discharged from the hospital in Akure.

He explained that the victims had been taken to Gombe State for further medical treatment.

He commended the Ondo State Command of FRSC for paying the initial hospital bills of the accident victims before the arrival of their families.

“The people that have the goods are my people and road safety officials were with the victims throughout their stay in hospital to ensure they were given adequate treatment. So, all the items are complete with what I was given by the owners. Nobody collected money, even one naira from me,” he said.

Insecurity in Plateau beyond farmer-herder clashes – Gov Muftwang

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State says that the ongoing attacks and killings in some parts of the state is a coordinated crime sponsored by conflict merchants and not farmer-herder clashes.

The governor said this during the Fashion and Arts Exhibition organised by the Tincity Fashion Week titled “The Plateau Experience”, on Friday night in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that on April 2, gunmen attacked Manguno, Daffo and Josho communities of Bokkos Local Government Area (LGA ) of the State.

The attackers killed many and destroyed houses and other properties worth millions.

Mutfwang, who insisted that the attacks were a well organised criminality, promised that the government and security agencies had put measures in place to forestall future occurrence.

“I want to thank all of you who are here to support and honour Plateau with your presence in this event. We do not take this show of solidarity lightly.

“We contemplated suspending this event due to the current security situation in the state, but we decided not to allow the situation ruin the good things we have to celebrate.

“And I must say that the aim of the enemy is to throw the state into gloom and mourning but we will rise above their intent and not give them what they want.

“For those who think that the current situation is a farmer-herder issue, let me disabuse your mind from that perception; it is a product of organised crime by malicious elements who do not want peace to reign in the state.

“I want to assure the good people of Plateau that God will give us victory over these miscreants and their end has come” he said.

Mutfwang, who commended the organisers of the exhibition, said that the event had placed Plateau on the world’s map by promoting its tourism and business potentials.

Earlier, Mr Chuwang Pwajok, the General Manager of the Plateau Tourism Board, described Plateau as a goldmine for not only tourism but natural and mineral resources waiting to be explored.

Speaking on behalf of the organisers, Miss Christabel Bentu, commended the governor for his support to the tourism industry and the overall development of the state.

She also commended the economic drive and commitment of the current administration towards sustainable development in the state.

NAN also reports that some dignitaries present at the event were the former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, former Minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen, among others.
