ADC Condemns $9 Million US Lobbying Amid Nigeria’s Security, Economic Crisis

ADC Slams FG’s $9 Million US Lobbying Deal Amid Nigeria’s Worsening Insecurity and Economic Crisis

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government over reports that it approved a $9 million lobbying contract in the United States, calling the expenditure a misplaced priority as millions of Nigerians struggle with insecurity and economic hardship.

In a statement signed by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, ADC’s spokesman, the party argued that the contract is a waste of public resources aimed at laundering Nigeria’s image abroad, rather than addressing urgent domestic challenges such as food insecurity, fuel shortages, and limited access to healthcare.

“No government in Africa has ever committed such an obscene sum to a short-term public relations exercise. While the ADC recognises the importance of representing Nigeria’s interests internationally, spending $9 million on image management at a time when millions of Nigerians cannot meet their basic needs is a clear case of moral blindness,” the statement said.

The party further criticised the reported justification of the lobbying effort as a campaign to highlight protection of Christian communities, warning it could exacerbate sectarian tensions and deepen national divisions.

According to ADC, paid lobbying cannot erase mass killings or curb insecurity. The party called on the Federal Government to prioritise protection of lives, security, and public trust, instead of relying on international propaganda to salvage its image.

“The blood of thousands of Nigerians killed under this administration cannot be washed away with image laundering. Lobbying to impress foreign leaders cannot substitute for a coherent strategy to end the bloodbath,” the statement added.
