ADC Woos Jonathan, Saraki, Governors Ahead of 2027 Elections

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has intensified efforts to expand its political influence ahead of the 2027 general elections, formally inviting former President Goodluck Jonathan, ex-Senate President Bukola Saraki, and several serving governors to join the party.

The move followed the inauguration of the party’s North-East Zonal Congress Committee, which the ADC described as part of a renewed strategy to strengthen its internal structures, promote internal democracy, and reposition the party for national leadership.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the party’s factional National Chairman, Nafiu Gombe, said the inauguration ceremony, held in Gombe State on January 11, marked a critical step in consolidating the ADC’s presence in the North-East region. The event was organised by the party’s national leadership and chaired by Dr Muhammad Muhammad.

Gombe said the exercise was aimed at ensuring transparent and credible congresses across the zone, adding that key officials had been formally approved and inaugurated to oversee the process.

According to him, the development underscores the ADC’s determination to build a credible political platform capable of attracting Nigerians across different political divides.

“The authentic national leadership of the ADC passionately appeals to and invites eminent personalities to join the party in its mission to rebuild and reposition Nigeria,” Gombe said.

Those invited include Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, former President Goodluck Jonathan, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Abia State Governor Alex Otti, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Gombe said the party believes their “experience, leadership and patriotism are vital in uniting efforts to make Nigeria great again.”

The ADC reiterated its commitment to offering what it described as a credible, inclusive and forward-looking political platform, focused on good governance, national unity, and sustainable development. It also pledged to continue mobilising Nigerians nationwide around a shared vision of accountability, equity and national renewal.

The latest push comes amid shifting political alignments, barely two weeks after Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, aligned with the David Mark-led ADC, fuelling speculation over emerging coalitions ahead of the 2027 polls.
