AFCON 2025 Final Chaos: CAF Launches Investigation Into Unacceptable Conduct
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has slammed the “unacceptable conduct” of players and officials during the AFCON 2025 final between Senegal and Morocco, announcing a full investigation into the chaotic incidents that marred the match.
The final, which ended 1–0 in favour of Senegal, was overshadowed by controversial moments, including a disputed penalty for Morocco that prompted Senegalese players and officials to stage a temporary walk-off. CAF described such actions as contrary to the values of African football and warned that those found responsible would face disciplinary sanctions.

CAF’s statement emphasized the need for respect for referees, match officials, and the integrity of the competition, adding that footage from the match will be reviewed before determining appropriate measures. The organisation also highlighted that such behaviour undermines the spirit of the game and damages the reputation of African football globally.
The incident drew reactions from FIFA, with President Gianni Infantino condemning the chaotic scenes and urging players and officials to uphold sportsmanship. Senegalese coach Pape Thiaw later apologised for the walk-off, while star player Sadio Mané was credited for calming the situation and convincing his team to resume play. Moroccan coach Walid Regragui also criticised the disruption as damaging to the tournament’s image.
CAF’s disciplinary review is ongoing, and fans and football stakeholders await the outcome, which could include fines, suspensions, or other sanctions for those involved.
