Afenifere Links Banditry, Kidnapping to Sabotage, Elite Complicity, Land‑Grabbing Agenda
The pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has raised alarm that the surge in banditry, kidnapping, and violent crimes across Nigeria is being fuelled not just by criminality but also by sabotage, elite complicity, and land-grabbing agendas. The group warned that these factors are undermining national security and development, particularly in traditionally peaceful states.
In a statement, Afenifere’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Jare Ajayi, said insecurity has now spread to states including Kogi, Kwara, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Oyo, and Ogun, affecting communities previously considered safe. Ajayi accused powerful individuals and groups of shielding perpetrators, undermining security operations, and pursuing hidden interests in land and resources through violence and intimidation.
