After Eruku Church Attack, Gunmen Strike Again in Kwara, Kill Two Farmers and Abduct Four
Barely 24 hours after the Eruku church attack in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, another wave of violence has struck the region as gunmen on Wednesday evening invaded Bokungi Village in Edu Local Government Area, killing two rice farmers and abducting four others.
The assailants reportedly stormed the rice fields during peak harvest hours, surrounding farmers who were gathering their produce. According to a community source, the attackers operated for several minutes without resistance before escaping the area.

Further accounts reveal that the two farmers who died were shot while attempting to resist the abduction. A community leader disclosed that the victims were concluding their day’s work around 6 p.m. when the attackers approached. Four farmers working nearby were seized, while three others took to their heels. Two were fatally shot, and one survivor sustained injuries. The deceased have since been buried.
Residents say rising insecurity in Kwara State, particularly in Edu LGA, has forced many farmers to abandon their settlements, especially during the harvest season when they are most vulnerable and exposed on their farmlands.
Efforts to speak with the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ojo Adekimi, were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
