Alliance talks: Like Obi, Kwankwaso’s NNPP dashes Atiku’s hope
The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has rejected the invitation extended to it by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar on the need to form coalition on the legal battle over President Bola Tinubu’s academic records.
Newstrends reports that Atiku had while addressing a press conference on Thursday called on Rabiu Kwankwaso – presidential candidate of the NNPP in the 2023 election ad Peter Obi of Labour Party to join him in the legal battle against Tinubu.
But reacting to the PDP presidential candidate invitation, NNPP said it would never be part of Atiku’s case.
According to the NNPP, it is not in court and doesn’t want to be an interloper in the PDP’s presidential candidate’s case.
But speaking at a press conference Friday, the acting deputy national chairman of the NNPP, Prince Nwaeze Onu, said they won’t be part of Atiku despite the call.

“We are not in court. We love the country. We will not engage in anything that does not concern us. We are only focused on the things that are happening at the level of our party,” Onu said.
On the concern in the party, Onu, however, said they discovered that some leaders of the party did not know that things had changed.
“They wanted to continue using every election to negotiate with governments in power at both the national and state level to negotiate instead of contesting elections. Even when notable politicians joined, they frustrated them by aligning with the government in power.
“That was our experience in the last elections, and this prompted the party leadership to sanction about nine states where the executives were dissolved and some chairmen were suspended or expelled.
“However, those erring chairmen became disgruntled and embarked on “war” against the party, even to the extent of conniving with enemies of the party.
“Our advice to the outsiders fighting the party to steer clear and stop meddling in the internal affairs of NNPP. Let me at this juncture thank INEC for their commitment to the growth of democracy in our country and also for their support to NNPP,” Onu added.
