Anambra Govt to Dock Salaries of Workers Observing IPOB Monday Sit-At-Home

Anambra Govt to Dock Salaries of Workers Observing IPOB Monday Sit-At-Home

The Anambra State Government has announced that it will deduct salaries of civil servants and public school workers who continue to observe the IPOB-linked Monday sit-at-home, insisting that the practice has been abolished and will no longer be tolerated.

The decision was approved by the Anambra State Executive Council and formally communicated to ministries, departments, agencies, and public schools across the state. According to the directive, workers who fail to report to duty on Mondays will forfeit their pay for the day, as the government moves to restore full productivity and normal economic activities.

Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s administration stressed that the sit-at-home order has no legal backing and continues to inflict severe economic losses, disrupt education, and weaken public service delivery in the state.

As part of the new policy, the state government has introduced a pro-rata salary payment system, under which workers’ monthly wages will be calculated based on the actual number of days worked. Any absence on official workdays, including Mondays, will attract automatic salary deductions.

The government noted that repeated shutdowns linked to IPOB’s sit-at-home directive have negatively affected businesses, schools, hospitals, and internally generated revenue, prompting the need for firmer administrative measures.

Authorities also disclosed that security agencies have been directed to ensure safety on Mondays, while market leaders and transport unions have been engaged to encourage residents to resume normal activities without fear.

The Anambra government urged civil servants and residents to ignore unlawful sit-at-home calls, rely on official government directives, and support efforts aimed at restoring economic stability and public confidence across the state.
