Anambra Police Launch Manhunt After Gunmen Attack Lilu Church, Kill One
The Anambra State Police Command has commenced an intensive manhunt for armed attackers who stormed St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Lilu, in Ihiala Local Government Area, killing one worshipper and injuring several others on Sunday.
Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed in a statement on Monday that the gunmen caused extensive damage to the church building and other property during the assault.
Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu condemned the incident as a heinous and abominable act targeting innocent worshippers, stressing that the attack threatens peace, the sanctity of life, and freedom of worship in the state.

He extended the command’s condolences to the victims’ families and the entire Lilu community, assuring residents that security agencies are determined to track down the perpetrators.
According to the statement, the police have intensified intelligence-led operations, deployed a joint security team, and increased surveillance across the region. Every available lead is being followed, with no resource spared in the effort to restore calm and bring the attackers to justice.
Residents were urged to remain calm and provide credible information that could assist the ongoing investigation.
Orutugu reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Ihiala and the wider Anambra State.
