Anthony Joshua Crash Case: Court Grants Driver Bail, Shifts Trial to February 25
A Magistrate Court in Ogun State has granted bail to Anthony Joshua’s driver, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, and adjourned his trial to February 25 in connection with the fatal road crash that claimed the lives of two members of the boxing star’s team.
Kayode, who was arraigned on multiple counts including dangerous and reckless driving causing death, was admitted to bail after the prosecution informed the court that the case file would be forwarded to the Ogun State Attorney-General for legal advice. The court held that the bail was granted pending the fulfilment of stipulated conditions, including the provision of credible sureties.

The case arose from a December 2025 accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, involving a luxury SUV conveying Anthony Joshua and his entourage. While the boxer and the driver survived the crash, two close associates reportedly died, sparking widespread public attention and legal scrutiny.
The adjournment follows a growing trend in high-profile traffic fatality cases, where courts seek guidance from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) before proceeding to full trial. Legal experts say the move ensures proper charges are filed and strengthens the prosecution’s case.
Beyond the courtroom, the incident has reignited conversations around road safety, driver licensing, and speed regulation on Nigeria’s major highways, particularly the accident-prone Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. Safety advocates have continued to call for stricter enforcement of traffic laws to prevent similar tragedies.
The court is expected to resume hearing on February 25, after legal advice from the Attorney-General’s office is received.
