DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the Police Public Relations Officer, announced on his X page that the suspect is being questioned to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash.

“The driver of the Lexus SUV is currently in custody in connection with the Anthony Joshua accident case. Investigations are ongoing,” the spokesman said.

The crash occurred on December 29, 2025, along the Lagos‑Ibadan Expressway, when Joshua’s vehicle reportedly lost control and collided with a stationary truck. Preliminary reports suggest a tyre blowout may have contributed to the accident.

Tragically, two of Joshua’s team members — his strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, and trainer, Latif Ayodele — died in the crash. Joshua himself sustained minor injuries but has since been discharged from hospital and is recovering.

Authorities, including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), said the investigation is ongoing, and further charges may be filed as more information emerges. The truck driver, who reportedly fled the scene, is also being sought by law enforcement.

The accident has raised renewed concerns about road safety on Nigeria’s highways. Tributes have poured in from fans, boxing promoters, and colleagues worldwide, mourning the loss of Joshua’s close associates while wishing the boxing champion a full recovery.
