APC Hails Abba Atiku’s APC Defection as Blow to Former VP Atiku’s Credibility

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described the defection of Abubakar “Abba” Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the APC as a significant setback to his father’s political credibility.

In a statement titled, “You Can’t Trust Atiku More Than His Son,” Lagos APC Spokesman Seye Oladejo described Abba’s move as a “political earthquake,” arguing that the younger Atiku’s decision to abandon the ADC in favour of the APC signals a generational repudiation of recycled politics and expired ambitions.

Oladejo said the move underscores the ideological inconsistency of Atiku Abubakar’s career, which he described as “a restless odyssey defined by serial defections, transactional alliances, and an obsession with the presidency.” He further noted that if Atiku’s own son rejects his political judgment, it raises questions about the former vice president’s ability to inspire confidence nationally.

The spokesman hailed Abba’s decision as an endorsement of the APC’s governance record and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that political leadership must inspire loyalty even within one’s immediate circle to command national confidence.

Oladejo concluded by urging Nigerians to “read the political handwriting on the wall,” asserting that the era of political tourism, moral inconsistency, and ambition without ideology is losing relevance.
