APC Slams Aregbesola, ADC Over Claims on Tinubu’s Lagos Electoral Loss
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused former Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of being intellectually dishonest over their repeated claims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu suffered a significant electoral defeat in Lagos State during the 2023 presidential election.
In a strongly worded statement, the APC said attempts by Aregbesola and the ADC to amplify President Tinubu’s loss in some polling areas of Lagos were misleading and deliberately aimed at distorting the overall outcome of the election. The ruling party insisted that such narratives were being pushed to score political points and undermine the legitimacy of Tinubu’s victory.

According to the APC, focusing narrowly on isolated results in Lagos ignores the broader national mandate that produced President Tinubu as Nigeria’s elected leader. The party argued that electoral contests are determined by cumulative nationwide results, not by selective emphasis on losses in specific locations.
Reacting to Aregbesola’s comments that political dominance and control of state structures do not automatically guarantee electoral success, the APC described the position as a calculated attempt to oversimplify complex electoral dynamics. The party maintained that while elections remain competitive, the outcome of the 2023 poll clearly reflected the will of Nigerians at the national level.
The ruling party further accused the ADC and its leaders of engaging in revisionist politics, especially as political realignments and defections intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections. It noted that such statements were driven more by frustration than by facts.
Reaffirming its confidence in President Tinubu, the APC said its priority remains governance and the implementation of policies under the Renewed Hope Agenda, rather than trading words with the opposition.
