Appoint men, women of integrity to student loan committee; Students advise Tinubu

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Youths and Students Council has advised President Bola Tinubu to appoint only people of impeccable character to the Students Loan Disbursement Committee for the program to succeed.

In addition to commending Tinubu for initiating such a commendable program, Imo State Coordinator of the council, Chizitere Ahubelem, applauded the appointment of Orire Agbaje, a 400-level student of the University of Ibadan, as a member of the Advisory Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, during a press briefing in Umuahia, Abia State.

He described the appointment as evidence of Tinubu’s desire to empower youths to become tomorrow’s leaders. He added that appointing men and women of integrity to the loan committee would ensure the project’s success.

The Imo APC youth leader stated that the president has demonstrated that he cares about the youths by signing the student loan law, but added, “Our concern is that there is a need to achieve positive results.”

We are, therefore, calling on the President to search for men and women of integrity to serve in the committee that will be in charge of disbursing the loan because, if handled well, it will become one of the milestone achievements of the APC for Nigerian youths. But if it fails, they will laugh at us.

Student loan: Reps propose 3% increase to meet demand

During a public hearing to evaluate the progress of the presidential committee tasked with eliminating legal obstacles obstructing Nigerian students’ access to loans, Honorable Terseer Ugboh, the Chair of the Ad-Hoc committee, unveiled this information.

The Chairman conveyed the committee’s commitment to facilitating the prompt initiation of the scheme as he addressed both the Federal Ministry of Education and the Implementation Committee.

Ugboh expressed dissatisfaction with the sluggish execution of the Students Loan Programme, which could have mitigated the impact of fuel subsidy removal. He urged the responsible parties to guarantee equitable allocation during distribution.

“We hope the system you are creating will be robust enough to take account of students who are already in school who want the loan to cover for the one year or two years of their schooling or students who are coming through direct entry.
