Army neutralises dozens of terrorists, rescues 45 kidnapped victims in one week

AbujaTroops of the Nigerian Army have successfully neutralised dozens of terrorists, rescued 45 kidnapped victims, and apprehended 57 suspects across the country within a single week, the military confirmed on Friday.

The update was provided by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Michael Onoja, who detailed the results of nationwide military operations. He said troops also recovered arms, vehicles, and ammunition while dismantling criminal and terrorist networks in multiple regions.

In the North East, Operation HADIN KAI led to the deaths of several terrorists, the arrest of 11 collaborators, the rescue of eight kidnapped commuters, and the destruction of multiple terrorist camps. Air interdiction missions in Sambisa further neutralised additional terrorists and destroyed their storage facilities.

Under Operation FASAN YAMMA, troops eliminated numerous terrorists and bandits, apprehended 15 suspects, and rescued 13 kidnapped victims across Zamfara, Kebbi, Sokoto, Katsina, Kaduna, and Niger States. The forces also recovered weapons, vehicles, livestock, and intercepted a suspected arms dealer with N4 million in cash and military-grade weapons.

In the North Central, Operations ENDURING PEACE and WHIRL STROKE resulted in the deaths of scores of extremists, the arrest of 11 suspects—including notorious terrorist Umar Idi (aka Lere)—and the rescue of 19 kidnapped victims, alongside the recovery of weapons, vehicles, and illicit funds.

In the South South, troops under DELTA SAFE foiled oil theft worth over N173 million, destroyed 11 illegal refining sites, and arrested 13 criminals.

In the South East, Operation UDO KA rescued five kidnapped victims, arrested seven criminals, and eliminated terrorist safe havens in Enugu State through coordinated air strikes.

Maj.-Gen. Onoja commended the Nigerian Army for their courage and professionalism, urging continued public support and intelligence sharing. He reiterated the military’s commitment to protecting lives, safeguarding property, and ensuring national security until peace is fully restored nationwide.
