Army rescues minor, 23 other kidnap victims from Zamfara village
The Nigerian Army says its personnel have rescued a minor and 23 other kidnap victims from a village in Zamfara State
According to a statement signed by Onyema Nwachukwu, director, Army Public Relations, the kidnap victims were found with their captors in Kabugu Lamba, an abandoned village in the Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The soldiers killed four of a group of bandits to secure the abducted people.
“Troops of 223 Battalion, operating under Sector 1 of Joint Task Force, North West Operations Hadarin Daji have in a rescue operation conducted in the early hours of today 7 July 2023 rescued 24 kidnap victims, including a child, after a shootout with notorious bandits at Kabugu Lamba, an abandoned village in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, North West Nigeria,” the statement read in part.

“The gallant troops led by the Commanding Officer of the Battalion stalked and swooped on the bandits, annihilating 4 of them in a ferocious firefight that ensued. The victims, including a minor, 9 females and 14 males, have been extricated and evacuated from the kidnappers’ hideout by the troops.”
The northwest, including Zamfara State, is plagued by terrorists who kill and kidnap their victims, and terrorist activities have forced residents of many communities to flee their homes.
The criminals are coordinated by known leaders such as Bello Turji, who is yet to apprehend.
