Blue Line: Lagos governor announces 50% anniversary discount
To mark the second anniversary of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved a 50% reduction in fares for Thursday, September 4, 2025.
The fare slash, announced on Wednesday by Head Consultant for Corporate Communication at the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Kolawole Ojelabi, is expected to encourage more people to experience the transformative rail system.
Launched in 2023, the Blue Line has transported over five million passengers without a single reported accident.
With trains running every ten minutes and completing more than 90 trips daily, the service has become a vital part of Lagos’ urban transportation network.
Governor Sanwo-Olu hailed the milestone as a collective achievement for Lagosians, saying, “In these two years, the Blue Line has carried more than five million passengers safely. Journeys that once took much longer have become faster and easier.
“These achievements show that when we work with dedication and purpose, we can build systems that truly serve the people.”
He also urged those who had yet to try the Blue Line to take advantage of the anniversary discount, noting that the project stands as a symbol of Lagos’ progress and commitment to modern infrastructure.
