Bobrisky: FG probes alleged corruption in correctional centres
The Federal Government has ordered a thorough investigation into allegations of bribery and corruption within the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
This directive was given by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, following reports that crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, did not serve his jail term inside the correctional facility as sentenced earlier this year.
The investigation was prompted by a viral audio recording, leaked by popular social critic Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan (VDM). In the audio, a voice purported to be Bobrisky’s claimed that he spent his jail term in a rented apartment near the correctional facility, rather than inside the prison.
The recording further alleged that a high-ranking officer in the NCoS, influenced by an undisclosed “godfather,” arranged for the crossdresser to avoid serving his time in the correctional centre.

In response, Minister Tunji-Ojo condemned any form of corruption, unprofessionalism, or misconduct within the correctional service, emphasizing that such actions would not go unpunished.
“The Ministry will not tolerate any compromise on its core values of integrity, transparency, and accountability,” the minister stated, vowing to take decisive action against those found guilty of violating these principles.
The minister has appointed a special investigative team, led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, to probe the matter and submit a comprehensive report.
Tunji-Ojo assured the public that the investigation would be thorough, transparent, and impartial, with appropriate disciplinary measures to follow for any personnel implicated in the scandal.
This investigation marks a significant step in addressing allegations of corruption within Nigeria’s prison system, reinforcing the government’s commitment to upholding integrity and accountability in public institutions.
