BREAKING : Appeal Court sacks Labour Party’s senator, declares PDP candidate winner

The Court of Appeal has reportedly nullified the election of the senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District, Darlington Nwokocha, of the Labour Party.

The court declared former National Organizing Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Col. Austin Akobundu (Rtd), as the rightful winner of Abia Central Senatorial District of Abia State.

This was made known in a post the verified X handle of the PDP on Saturday evening.

It reads :”The former National Organizing Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), @OfficialPDPNig Col. Austin Akobundu (Rtd), has just been declared by the Appeal Court as the rightful winner of Abia Central Senatorial District of Abia State.

Senator Austin Akobundu, Abia Central and Senator Osita Ngwu, Enugu West are the two Senators of the PDP extractions from the South East region at the National Assembly. ”

The returning officer of the election, Professor Herbert Udo of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike (MOUAU) had in February declared Nwokocha winner of the election having polled 92,116 while Akobundu was said to have received 41,477 votes to place second.
