BREAKING: Former Delta North Senator Peter Nwaoboshi Dies, Oborevwori Mourns

Former lawmaker who represented Delta North Senatorial District, Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi, is dead.

Details surrounding the death of the former National Assembly member were yet to be made public as of the time of filing this report.

Reacting to the development, Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, expressed deep sorrow, describing the passing of the ex-senator as a great loss to Delta State, the Anioma nation and Nigeria.

In a condolence message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the governor described Senator Nwaoboshi as a proud son of Delta State and a courageous defender of the Anioma cause, whose contributions to nation-building would remain indelible.

Governor Oborevwori recalled the late senator’s impactful service at the National Assembly, where he served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs, noting that his strong advocacy for the development of the Niger Delta and Delta State distinguished him as a committed and passionate leader.

He also highlighted Nwaoboshi’s rich political pedigree and selfless service, pointing out that the late lawmaker served meritoriously as a two-time Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, with a political career rooted in dedication to democratic ideals.

According to the governor, Peter Nwaoboshi devoted his life to the service of his people, his party and the nation, leaving behind a legacy of courage, loyalty and commitment to public service.

“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I mourn the passing of my dear friend, Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi,” Oborevwori said.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, the people of Anioma nation, members of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and all those whose lives he touched.

“I pray that Almighty God grants his soul eternal rest and gives his family, friends and associates the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Sarumi Samusudeen Babafemi, an associate of social media personality Ismaila Mustapha (Mompha), alongside three corporate entities, over an alleged ₦206 million fraud before the Lagos State Special Offences Court, Ikeja.

Babafemi — Managing Director and CEO of 606 Autos Limited, 606 Music Limited, and Splash Off Entertainment Limited — faces five counts of conspiracy, concealment, and transfer of proceeds of crime, allegedly committed between 2013 and 2018. The EFCC claims the offences involved large sums, including ₦37.6 million and ₦93 million transferred to third parties, with knowledge that the funds were proceeds of unlawful acts.

When the charges were read, Babafemi pleaded not guilty. His defence lawyer, SAN Kunle Adegoke, filed a bail application, which the court granted, ordering that Babafemi be released to his counsel upon signing an affidavit of undertaking to appear in court. The trial is now scheduled to commence on March 24, 2026.

The EFCC said Babafemi acted in concert with Mompha and other co-accused — Ridwan Momodu Allison (Osama) and Richard Ugbah, who are currently at large — to facilitate the alleged money laundering scheme. This latest prosecution comes as part of broader EFCC efforts to tackle financial crimes and fraud networks linked to high-profile figures in Nigeria.
