BREAKING: Kanu dumps plan to enter defence, insists no case against him
Detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has opted not to call witnesses in his ongoing trial for alleged terrorism offences, insisting that the charges against him are invalid.
Kanu, who had earlier applied for witness summons, made the decision known on Monday when the case resumed before Justice James Omotosho at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The court had previously adjourned the matter on October 24 to allow the defendant open his defence. However, when the case was called, Kanu told the court he had reviewed the case file and concluded that there was no valid charge against him.

He argued that he had been subjected to an unlawful trial and therefore saw no need to present a defence.
Justice Omotosho directed him to file a written address stating his position and serve the prosecution accordingly. The judge also advised Kanu to seek legal counsel on the implications of his decision.
The case was adjourned to November 4, 5, and 6 for the adoption of final written addresses, either based on the defendant’s claim that no case has been established against him or for him to proceed with his defence.
