Breaking: Lawan loses Yobe APC senatorial battle, court declares Machina candidate

Things are not looking up for the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, in his bid to return to the Senate in 2023 as the Federal High Court again on Wednesday ruled that Bashir Machina is the authentic senatorial candidate of the All Progressive Congress.

In her judgment, Justice Fadimatu Murtala, in a judgment delivered today in Damaturu, also nullified the parallel primary election of 9th June 2022 that produced President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan.

The court ordered APC to forward the name of Bashir Machina to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC as the authentic candidate for Yobe North senatorial district.

INEC had last week published the names and details of all the candidates in the next year’s general elections but left Yobe North space blank

Justifying it’s decision, Festus Okoye, Chairman voter’s education to the commission said the place is left blank because the case is still in court.

He added that the commission will abide by any judgment about the matter.

Lawan participated in the presidential primary of APC that produced Bola Tinubu as candidate.
