BREAKING: Scores feared dead as multi-storey building collapses in Abuja
In Abuja on Wednesday night, a multi-story building collapsed after heavy rain, leaving several people trapped and a dozen people presumed dead.
In Garki, Abuja, the high-rise structure is situated on the popular Lagos Street.
The structure is home to several flats, while the ground floor is packed with shops, according to an eyewitness, Tanko Dabo, who was at the scene following the tragedy.
He said the building collapsed during the heavy downpour which started around 11:50pm on Wednesday.

”There was wailing all over the place after the building collapsed. Dozens of people are either dead or trapped as the building is fully occupied.
“It was a scene of helplessness with people screaming and going helter-skelter, while the heavy rain continued,” he said.
Lagos Street in Garki is one of the popular area with night life. The street, dotted eateries and bars, is busy all through the night – every night.
Mr Dabo said dozen people who sleep at ground floor of the building are either trapped or dead.
It was not clear whether officials of emergency agencies like NEMA have arrived the scene as of the time of filing this report.
