Calvin Bassey’s Father Makes Emotional Plea for Family Reunion After 18 Years
The father of Super Eagles and Fulham defender Calvin Bassey, Kingsley Ikenna Ughelumba, has made a heartfelt appeal for reconciliation with his children, nearly 18 years after their separation. Speaking publicly on social media, Ughelumba urged his estranged wife and sons to forgive past mistakes and allow him to reconnect with his family.
Ughelumba described the years apart as extremely painful and expressed a strong desire to rebuild lost family ties. “I have been suffering in silence. I just want to be part of my children’s lives,” he said during a livestream that has since gone viral online.

The estrangement reportedly began due to a long-running dispute with his ex-wife, which resulted in him losing contact with his children. Despite multiple attempts to reconnect — including traveling to watch Bassey play for Nigeria and visiting him in Leicester — his efforts have largely been unsuccessful. Ughelumba stressed that his appeal is about family and love, not his son’s football career.
The emotional plea has sparked mixed reactions on social media. Many sympathize with the father’s vulnerability and hope for reconciliation, while others question his long absence from his children’s lives and caution that rebuilding trust will take time.
For Bassey, who has previously spoken about his father’s absence, the focus has been on his mother’s support and sacrifices in raising him and his siblings. This renewed appeal now places the spotlight on a possible family reunion after nearly two decades.
