CAN Mourns Death of Renowned Islamic Scholar Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of respected Islamic scholar Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, describing his death as a significant spiritual and moral loss to the nation.

According to family sources, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi died on Thursday at the age of 98 years.

In a condolence message issued in Kaduna, the Chairman of Northern CAN, Rev. Joseph Hayab, lauded the late scholar for promoting peace, humility, and interfaith harmony through his teachings. Hayab highlighted Sheikh Bauchi’s dedication to Qur’anic education and moral discipline, noting that his influence shaped generations of students and fostered social cohesion in Northern Nigeria.

“Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi consistently used his position to encourage peaceful coexistence and discourage violence, even during tense periods,” Hayab said.

The CAN leader urged Nigerians to uphold the values of tolerance and national unity exemplified by Sheikh Bauchi, especially amid rising religious tensions, political uncertainty, and insecurity. He stressed that the most fitting tribute to the late cleric is for citizens to reaffirm their commitment to peace, dialogue, and interfaith cooperation.

Rev. Hayab extended condolences to Sheikh Bauchi’s family, the Tijjaniyya movement, the Bauchi Emirate, and the Muslim Ummah across the country. He called on both Christian and Muslim communities to deepen interfaith dialogue and rebuild trust among diverse groups.

He prayed for God’s comfort for all who are grieving and for eternal rest for the late scholar, describing his legacy as a guiding light for religious tolerance and national cohesion.

EFCC Arraigns Mompha’s Associate Over Alleged ₦206m Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Sarumi Samusudeen Babafemi, an associate of social media personality Ismaila Mustapha (Mompha), alongside three corporate entities, over an alleged ₦206 million fraud before the Lagos State Special Offences Court, Ikeja.

Babafemi — Managing Director and CEO of 606 Autos Limited, 606 Music Limited, and Splash Off Entertainment Limited — faces five counts of conspiracy, concealment, and transfer of proceeds of crime, allegedly committed between 2013 and 2018. The EFCC claims the offences involved large sums, including ₦37.6 million and ₦93 million transferred to third parties, with knowledge that the funds were proceeds of unlawful acts.

When the charges were read, Babafemi pleaded not guilty. His defence lawyer, SAN Kunle Adegoke, filed a bail application, which the court granted, ordering that Babafemi be released to his counsel upon signing an affidavit of undertaking to appear in court. The trial is now scheduled to commence on March 24, 2026.

The EFCC said Babafemi acted in concert with Mompha and other co-accused — Ridwan Momodu Allison (Osama) and Richard Ugbah, who are currently at large — to facilitate the alleged money laundering scheme. This latest prosecution comes as part of broader EFCC efforts to tackle financial crimes and fraud networks linked to high-profile figures in Nigeria.
