Chimamanda Adichie, Husband Lose 21-Month-Old Twin Son After Brief Illness
Renowned Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and her husband, Dr Ivara Esege, are mourning the death of one of their twin sons, Nkanu Nnamdi, who passed away at the age of 21 months.
In a statement issued on Thursday by Omawumi Ogbe on behalf of the family, it was disclosed that the child died on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, following a brief illness.

“The family is devastated by this profound loss,” the statement said, while appealing to the public and the media to respect their privacy during the period of mourning.
The family also requested prayers and understanding as they grieve in private, stressing that no further statements would be made.
“We ask for your grace and prayers as they mourn in private, and we thank the public and the media for respecting their need for seclusion during this time of immense grief,” the statement added.
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is globally celebrated for her literary works, including Half of a Yellow Sun, Purple Hibiscus and Americanah.
